der Grosse Umzug, Konstanz 2009

There were quite a few witches in town on Sunday.
As we walked to the Fasnacht parade, we saw a couple of familiar sheep getting ready.
The town has looked so festive in the last few weeks, cloth flags hang everywhere.
The parade begins! Margaret sees the Pippi Longstockings and exclaims, " So much pee pee!!".

These witches had reeds so long, they tickled us through our second story window.
I was scared of the witches with the wooden masks and the real fur, but the kids were not.
The witches would grab unsuspecting on-lookers and take them in a little ride in their cage.
die Blätzlebuebe, a very traditional costume.
Cork people?

Scary monsters!
Frog people, for those of us who like frogs...
Pirates!! Very popular.
And the best thing of all, we got to watch it from a heated windowsill in Claire's apartment.

Kinderball: Will the party never end?

William enjoys a Berliner.
Sean really enjoys a beer.
Margaret and William cover me in confetti...
...but look so innocent.
William and Carina, Kindergarten sweethearts.
William proudly holds on to his balloon, seconds before it lands on the ceiling, never to be recovered.
Once the balloon was gone, so was the gute Laune.

Conversations with William

I. Wm wakes up, looks outside, and discovers that it is snowing...AGAIN.

Wm: Oh, Man! It"s snowing AGAIN!
HF: I know! Want me to make it stop?
Wm (looks puzzled): Oh, Mama! You can't make it stop snowing! Only Jesus can do that. Jesus with his stupid snow-powers! Stupid Jesus! Stupid snow-powers! (dissolving into high drama despair) It will NEVER be summer!
HF ( unable to take this problem seriously, and visualizing Jesus as a super-hero with special "snow-powers", starts giggling): bah hah hah!
Wm: What's so funny? It's not funny!
HF: Oh, right. Sorry. Time to get dressed!

II. William, impressed by the snowfall and cold, gets dressed. He puts on an orange Dutch soccer shirt with a collar followed by a green Brazilian soccer T-shirt, followed by a busy Hotwheels hooded sweatshirt. Later that day, Wm, Mg, and HF are eating spaghetti. HF dribbles tomato sauce all over her pregnant belly.

HF: Woops! I got tomato sauce on my shirt. I guess I'll have to change my shirt after lunch.
Wm: Oh, Mama. That's no big deal. I do that too sometimes. But if I do it today it doesn't matter.
HF: Come again?
Wm ( serious tone) : Today I am wearing three shirts, so if I get tomato sauce on my shirt, I can just take it off and I still have a shirt! If I get tomato sauce on that shirt, I can just take that one off and I still have a shirt! I don't have to go get a new shirt.
HF: Smart thinking. I should use that system, too!
Wm (kindly and patiently): Yeah. Maybe you can remember to do it tomorrow.

Bucking bronco.

Fasnacht is here again!

This year, in celebration of our upcoming move, we decided to dress up as cowboys for Fasching. As I am 36 1/2 weeks pregnant, however, it was decided that I might look better as the cow. Luckily, I found a wonderful costume to borrow and it worked out beautifully until the cow overheated and had to go running out of the loud hall to sit in the snow.
William looks great as a cowboy.
A Fasnacht club on stage.
And more!
The kiddie table.

Marga the cowboy! Ho Narro!

Baby Shower for Number Three?

Here is a picture of the damage at 35 weeks.
Some good friends had a baby shower for me (and Pirate Skeleton) at an Indian restaurant last night. Good food, better company, and some baby clothes to make it seem real! Thank you, friends! See Amy above - it's her fault I wanted a third!
Rachelle gives me a sippy cup imported from down under!
Jill and Rachelle. Jennifer was behind the camera ( thank you!) and didn't get her picture taken. :(
Belly shot. This time I am not petite, but neither is the baby. 5 weeks to go! Or so.
