Conversations
I. Dr. HF returns home from grocery shopping and sees a crumpled piece of paper in the hallway. Mr. Dr. HF heads downstairs to get the groceries out of the car.
Dr. HF: Here, stick this in the paper recycling while you're down there.
Mr. Dr. HF: Marga made that for you. It is a present.
Dr. HF: OH! Thank you, Marga! I love it. Look at the colors! Did you make this for Mama?
Marga: No. It's just a yucky piece of paper.
Dr. HF: ?
II. Dr. HF is shopping with William. They buy bread and William asks to pay. HF hands Wm 5 Euro and orders 2 Euros worth of bread. The woman gives William the change.
Dr. HF: Can you put the change in my wallet please, William?
Wm: No. It is mine. The lady gave it to ME.
Dr. HF: Yes, but I paid for the bread.
Wm: No, *I* paid for the bread.
Dr. HF: But it was my money.
Wm: But you gave it to me.
Dr. HF: I only gave it to you so you could pay for the bread. Now I need the change so we can buy other things, too.
Wm: (sincerely) But it is my money. I paid for the bread and the woman gave the money to me. So it is my money. You have a lot of money and I have none. It isn't fair. And she gave the money to me.
Dr. HF (giggling): But we spend all of our money on you. Can I please have the change now?
Wm ( reluctantly hands over the change): Well, why are you laughing? It's not even funny about it.
Dr. HF ( slight repressed giggle): okay. Sorry.
Wm ( totally not getting it still): But I paid for the bread and she gave me the money to me.

Conversations with the Family
So, I have been following the kids around with a notebook for the last several days, writing down the funny things they say. They say so many funny things an hour it is hard to keep up! Here are a few excerpts:
I.
Dr. HF: William, if you get cold playing outside at Kindergarten, all you have to do is run around a lot and you'll feel warmer again.
Wm: But Mama! That doesn't help! The cold is everywhere!
II.
Dr. HF and Wm are playing tigers in the living room. Dr. HF is getting tired of Wm's bad-guy tiger always beating up her good-guy tiger.
Dr. HF: Can my good-guy tiger be friends with your bad-guy tiger? We really have the same goals in the end. We both want to escape the dinosaur.
Wm (pensive): I'll have to check my internet to see if bad-guy tigers can be friends with good-guy tigers. Just a minute. (pause) My internet says that good-guy tigers get to choose, but it doesn't usually happen.
III.
Wm and Mg have just received hand-knit stuffed elephants from Beeba in the mail.
Dr. HF: Beeba sent you these special elephants because she loves you.
Mg: I SO HAPPY!!
Wm: Why didn't she send a lion or a tiger or a cheetah? I want a tiger that stands on all four legs, not like this elephant that stands on two legs. Why does this elephant stand on only two legs?
IV.
Dr. HF is drawing a bath for Wm and Mg. (I presume they are quoting from the song in the movie Madagascar, " I Like to Move it!".)
Wm: This bath is going to be so nice and warm and sassy!
Mg: Yeah! Warm and sassy! Warm and sassy!
V.
Mg: I wanted William to play with me but he just keeps playing with himself.
VI.
Dr HF, Wm, and Mg are discussing the future arrival of P.S. McCrea.
Wm: Jesus is making the baby and God will decide what color eyes it will have. We don't know yet until it comes out. It will look like me, or Marga... or, or Sammy (upstairs neighbor). It has to look like somebody.
Wm: When the baby comes, it will be my birthday and I will be the Chef (boss) of all the kids!
VII.
Dr. HF enters the bathroom to find Wm sitting on the counter-top beating the mirror repeatedly with his wet, soapy hands.
Dr. HF (alarmed): William! Stop doing that! You could break the mirror and you are getting it all dirty!
Wm (with patience): Oh, Mama, don't worry. It's not broken yet, and if you want to look at yourself you can just look at the edges.

Pirate Skeleton McCrea
Somewhat disturbingly, William has named his unborn brother "Pirate Skeleton" and refuses to acknowledge any other potential names. The name has stuck for several months and now we all refer to the sweet, innocent child as "Pirate Skeleton". All other names will just be so BORING in comparison. This morning, pirate skeleton finger puppets arrived in the mail from Beeba. Will we be able to find a better name, or will P.S. McCrea forever be explaining what his initials stand for?

Photo Overload
Here are some Christmas pictures from Oma's camera. I promise you, by the time you are done scrolling through these 20 pictures you will feel like you've been here with us the entire Christmas season! In the above picture, William and I are singing Christmas carols. I have spared you the video.
The fourth advent Sunday, a fancy breakfast with Jennifer's family. We dressed up in our Christmas outfits and crawled around under the tables.
I wanted to buy all this stuff from the Weihnachtsmarkt.
More pictures of the Weihnachtsmarkt.
William and I make pancakes for Grandpa.
Wm and Uncle Mike are the best of buddies.
Another scene from Christmas morning. I love how William looks exactly like Sean, just shorter with slightly more hair.
Brothers celebrate Christmas.
Princesses created art.
Wm and Mg excavated dinosaur bones with Grandpa.
Then Oma took a shift.
William loves to play castle. The good guys and the bad guys are always at war.
But he also likes to snuggle with his sister on the couch.
We discovered that Margaret is a puzzle-genius.
As is her brother.
How is it she looks so good in a princess dress, even when she wears it over her forest-animal LL Bean pajamas?
Happy New Year, 2009! Thanks for visiting, Oma and Grandpa!
